张彻导演在本片选角方面，刻意撮合两对银坛夫妇，傅声与甄妮及姜大卫与李琳琳演对手戏。而倪匡为首的编剧团将“天堂”、“人间”、“地狱”三个故事组成全片。带领观众穿梭三个时空。巡宫仙使辛灵，则是贯穿全片的核心人物。他最初因掩护仙界同僚逃出天宫， 而被贬落凡怷，在凡间因营救逃亡夫妇，不幸重伤身亡，到了地狱又协助冤鬼杀死仇敌。
